COMPUTER IS FIXED!!

Sat Jul 25, 2009, 10:55 AM
Well, it took the better part of 2 days to find the problem, but I *finally* fixed it! Turns out that a Trojan horse (Vundo) had exploited a hole in Norton, disabling stuff like System Restore, Disk Defragmenter, as well as practically terminating access to the Internet (quite a mess, I know). After working with a few loopholes (installing Spybot Search & Destroy in Safe Mode and renaming the .exe files so Vundo wouldn't block it), I finally deleted the virus! However, I had to also get rid of Norton, due to the fact that it was beyond saving, but I believe I'm better off now than I was before, and I should be safer from now on :D .

glad your computer is fixed :). though, I take it that means you din't follow my guide =P.

Tbh, you should've gotten rid of norton a long time ago. It's not as effective as other antiviruses and it consumes a lot of memory while working.

Things to get before 2011:
X Intel Core2Duo E7500 2.93 GHz
X Asus X83VP-A1 14"
X Modern Warfare 2
4. Left 4 Dead 2
X Operation Flashpoint 2
X Windows 7 (Professional or Ultimate)
7. Maybe a new set of clothes

well, I think some stuff might still be there, as I still can't use Disk Defragmenter or System Restore, and I get a lot of ads for penis enlargement pills (ick...) as well as pop-ups where there shouldn't be pop-ups... but I at least got rid of the worst issues...

lol. penis enlargement pills .

As for defrag and system restore, i think u should try other antispywares. You have AVG Free right? You might want to try to repair the OS ;).

by reinstalling Windows or by scanning with AVG?
lol I know, but that also means the virus is still there...

I'm not saying that it's still there, but you would get better protection with AVG or sumthin.

Repairing the OS is just a suggestion to help fix defrag and system restore.

well, it was mostly fixed, I was still seeing stuff like inappropriate ads and pop-ups, but after spending about an hour scanning in safe mode with Malwarebytes (AVG would've taken way too long), it reported that it caught something (another trojan file related to Vundo), and I'm seeing even less stuff related to the virus now :)
